wikipedia
The Church of St. Catherine the Martyr in Poddębice is an important religious and historical monument, located in the Archdiocese of Łódź. It serves as the main parish church and the seat of the Poddębice deanery. The church is dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria. Built in the late Renaissance style starting in 1610, the church was originally a single-nave structure. Its expansion in the 19th century introduced side aisles and additional architectural elements such as a sacristy and a chapel. The interior of the church is distinguished by its rich stucco decorations, pilasters, and barrel vaults with lunettes. Notable features include the Renaissance main altar, which houses sculptures of saints Adalbert, Stanislaus, Barbara, and Catherine. The church not only serves as a place of worship but also as a tourist attraction, forming part of the Maria Konopnicka Hiking Trail and other local tourist routes. Religious and patriotic ceremonies are regularly held here, including anniversary celebrations that often bring together the local community and visitors. An interesting fact is that the Church of St. Catherine in Poddębice was known for fires in the 19th century, which, however, did not discourage the community from maintaining its condition. Surrounding the church, there is a park-lined avenue and a square with a monument to St. Joseph, making it a central point of cultural and social life in the city. Its rich history and variety of monuments attract both pilgrims and tourists, who can admire not only the architecture but also valuable works of sacred art.
