The Basilica of St. George the Martyr in Ziębice is a parish church of the Archdiocese of Wrocław, recognized as a minor basilica since 2008. Its history dates back to the 13th century when the western section was constructed in a Romanesque-Gothic style. Over the following centuries, the church underwent numerous renovations and expansions, including the addition of a sacristy on the southern side in the 14th century and the construction of the Marian Chapel in the 15th century with the support of Prince Jan of Ziębice. The basilica is distinguished by its rich interior decoration, featuring a 15th-century wooden crucifix, polychrome sculptures, frescoes depicting biblical scenes, and a Gothic sacrament house. The chancel houses a Baroque altar from 1703, serving as the focal point of the church. The basilica boasts numerous valuable artworks, such as Gothic sculptures and early Rococo altars from the 18th century. It is renowned not only for its architecture but also for its preserved medieval noble tombs and wall paintings. Impressive architectural details, such as the pointed arch portals on the northern and southern sides of the building, capture the attention of visitors. The interior of the basilica is a significant attraction not only for the local community but also for tourists interested in the history and culture of the region.
