St. Michael the Archangel Church in Bielsk Podlaski

The Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Bielsk Podlaski is an Orthodox parish church belonging to the Warsaw-Bielsk Diocese of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church. Located in the city center at 36 Adama Mickiewicza Street, it is an important cultural and architectural landmark of the region. Built before 1789 as a Uniate church, it features a log structure and is clad with wooden boards, reflecting local building traditions. The nave of the church is octagonal in plan, giving it a distinctive style. In 1914, a narthex with a bell tower was added, and in 1989, the altar section was expanded. An interesting feature is the baptistery at the rear of the church, designed by Jerzy Nowosielski, a renowned artist and iconographer, which highlights the artistic significance of this site. Additionally, next to the church stands a parish house with the Chapel-Baptistery of St. John the Baptist. The church was entered into the register of monuments on November 19, 1976, under number A-39, underscoring its historical and cultural importance in the Białystok region. This place not only serves a religious function but also stands as a witness to the history of the region, blending tradition with modernity.
