wikipedia
The Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Kończyce Wielkie is a historic, wooden parish building, erected in 1777, and is the largest wooden church in Cieszyn Silesia. The parish was first mentioned in 1335, and a previous structure, also made of wood, stood on this site until the construction of the new church began in 1774. The church was built by carpenters from Bobrek, and its construction involved enclosing a smaller, existing church, which allowed the parish to continue its activities without interruption. In 1884, a thorough renovation was carried out, during which the attached arcades (soboty) were dismantled and new polychromes were created, although the earlier bells dating from 1489, 1555, and 1623 were preserved. The church is maintained in the Baroque style, featuring a tall tower with a spire, and a log-frame structure for the main nave and presbytery, all covered with a shingle roof. The interior is characterized by a flat ceiling and patrons' pews on the sides of the presbytery, while its modest furnishings include a Baroque main altar, two side altars from the 19th century, and a Rococo baptismal font from 1737. An interesting fact is that the Baroque pulpit, crafted by Jan Hrabec, arrived in Kończyce with some damage, highlighting the challenging journey of this artwork. The church is part of the Wooden Architecture Trail in the Silesian Voivodeship, underscoring its cultural and architectural significance in the region.
