wikipedia
The Church of St. Nicholas in Grzegorzew is a Roman Catholic parish church belonging to the Koło deanery, located at Church Square. The current wooden structure was built in 1777, replacing an earlier chapel that had existed since the time of Archbishop Zbigniew Oleśnicki. The church has undergone numerous changes, including an expansion between 1885 and 1888, when a tower was added. It features a log structure, is clad with wooden planks, and covered with wood shingles. From an architectural standpoint, the church boasts five altars characteristic of the Baroque style, including a Neo-Baroque main altar containing elements from the 16th to 19th centuries, as well as a Late Gothic baptismal font from the early 16th century. Notable furnishings include a Rococo confessional and Baroque sculptures, along with 18th-century door fittings. In the vicinity of the church, there is a small chapel with a folk sculpture of St. Benno. Significant moments in the church's history include its demolition and the construction of a new church in 1777, as well as numerous renovations, such as the conservation of the main altar between 1991 and 1993. It is worth noting that during the German occupation, the church served as a shelter for displaced Germans. In 1995, the parish of Grzegorzew was honored with an award from the Ministry of Culture and Art for the conservation of the historic building. The church is not only a place of worship but also a valuable cultural heritage site, reflecting the history of local traditions and sacred architecture.
