wikipedia
The Church of St. Nicholas in Kędzierzyn-Koźle is a historic Roman Catholic building constructed between 1900 and 1902, belonging to the Kędzierzyn deanery of the Opole diocese. Designed by architect Ludwig Schneider, it was solemnly consecrated in 1902. The church, built in the Neo-Gothic style from clinker brick, is distinguished by its impressive 38-meter-high tower with five storeys. The interior architecture features cross-ribbed brick vaulting, an organ loft, and a richly decorated main altar made of handcrafted brass, adorned with reliefs depicting biblical scenes. The church interior is decorated with numerous statues of saints and stained-glass windows, while the left wall houses a chapel with a replica of the image of Our Lady of Częstochowa. An interesting fact is that the side altars in the form of mosaics were imported from Germany, and corresponding statues of St. Rita and Faustyna Kowalska are placed in the chapel. In front of the church, there is a square with a monument depicting the Crucifixion scene, along with numerous memorials, including a Pietà statue and a mission cross. Historically, funds for the construction of the church were raised by the first parish priest, Father Maksymilian Wontrobka, and the cornerstone was consecrated in 1901, containing not only documents related to the parish's history but also local newspapers.
