Stanisław Staszic IV High School in Sosnowiec, established in 1894, boasts a rich history dating back to the times of the partitions of Poland, when the Sosnowiec Realschule was opened. Housed in a Neo-Renaissance building until 1970, the school became a hub of patriotic activity, with students fighting for the Polish language and culture. After World War I, it was transformed into the Stanisław Staszic State Gymnasium, which during World War II was subjected to German occupation and continued its operations through underground education. After the war, the school resumed its activities, and in 1957, it became coeducational. The high school enjoys a strong reputation in the region, consistently achieving high rankings among secondary schools, with over 280 finalists and winners of subject Olympiads. It is also distinguished by its traditional uniforms and its rowing regatta rivalry with another Sosnowiec high school, Plater. The school community engages in a variety of cultural and sporting events, including annual ski camps in Zakopane and student exchanges with institutions abroad. The school also organizes numerous subject competitions, attracting participants from across the country. In 2023, it received accreditation from the International Baccalaureate Organization, highlighting its international character. A modern approach to education, diverse academic profiles, and an active student council reflect the students' engagement in school life. The school also maintains a tradition of hosting prominent figures from the worlds of culture and politics, contributing to the intellectual development of its students.
