The State Medical University of Applied Sciences in Opole (Państwowa Medyczna Wyższa Szkoła Zawodowa w Opolu, PMWSZ) was established on May 1, 2003, building upon a tradition of medical education dating back to 1955. It was founded on the basis of the Maria Kujawska Medical Vocational College, which had its origins in Nysa and, after relocating to Opole, was transformed into a university of applied sciences. PMWSZ was the only state medical university of applied sciences in Poland and the first of its kind in the Opole region. Structurally, the university consisted of institutes offering education in nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, and dietetics. In 2020, PMWSZ was incorporated into the University of Opole as its Faculty of Health Sciences. The university offered a variety of bachelor's and master's degree programs, as well as postgraduate studies, contributing to the education of specialists in the fields of health and rehabilitation. Architecturally, the university developed dynamically, constructing new educational buildings and laboratories, including a modern auditorium. In the cultural sphere, the university organized jubilee events and participated in the Erasmus+ program, enabling student exchanges with universities around the world. An interesting aspect is the university's connection with the figure of Dr. Maria Kujawska, whose legacy is cherished by the institution. Through its publishing house, PMWSZ published scientific works focused on modern medical achievements, demonstrating the university's commitment to the advancement of science and education in the field of health.
