The Stawiski Commune is an urban-rural municipality located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, within Kolno County, with its administrative seat in the town of Stawiski, which regained its town status in 1919. Between 1975 and 1998, the commune was part of the Łomża Voivodeship. Covering an area of 165.55 km², the commune has a diverse structure, with 75% of its land used for agriculture and 19% covered by forests. The territory of the commune accounts for 17.62% of the total area of Kolno County. Stawiski Commune is characterized by a varied demographic profile; according to the 1921 National Census, it was inhabited by 5,926 people, predominantly of Roman Catholic faith, with small minorities of Orthodox, Evangelical, and Jewish residents. More recent data from 2004 indicates a population of 6,639. The commune comprises numerous localities, including villages such as Barzykowo, Ruthki, Sokoły, and Zabiele, as well as smaller settlements like Dąbrowa and Grabówek. It borders the communes of Grabowo, Jedwabne, Kolno, Mały Płock, Piątnica, and Przytuły. Historically, Stawiski Commune was part of Kolno County in the Łomża Governorate, and its administrative transformations began in 1871 when Stawiski lost its town rights as a result of a tsarist decree. The restoration of town status occurred after World War I, marking a significant moment in local history.
