Stefan Żeromski's Cottage in Gdynia-Orłowo

Stefan Żeromski’s Cottage in Gdynia-Orłowo is a museum and cultural center located in the place where the renowned Polish writer Stefan Żeromski lived with his family between 1920 and 1921. Over the years, the building served various purposes, including residential use, until its renovation began in 1989 to adapt it into a museum, which opened in 1997. The exhibition dedicated to Żeromski is arranged on the upper floor and includes memorabilia, photographs, copies of manuscripts, letters, and period furniture, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the era when the author lived. On the ground floor, there is a café featuring an exhibition of archival photographs of Orłowo and Gdynia, as well as biographical panels about the writer. The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with free admission. The Society of Friends of Orłowo operates here, organizing various cultural events, including meetings and exhibitions. It is worth noting that during his stay in Gdynia, Żeromski took an interest in the city’s development and collaborated with many prominent literary figures. Interestingly, it was during this period that he wrote his work "Sambor and Mestwin." Surrounded by the picturesque landscapes of Orłowo, the cottage is not only a memorial to the great writer but also an important landmark on the cultural map of Gdynia.
