Sterdyń

Sterdyń is a rural commune located in the Masovian Voivodeship, within the Sokołów County, with its administrative seat in the village of Sterdyń—previously known as Sterdyń-Osada until the end of 1999. The commune was established as a result of administrative reforms and, between 1975 and 1998, it belonged to the Siedlce Voivodeship. Covering an area of 130.03 km², it was home to 4,596 people as of June 2004, reflecting a diverse and culturally rich local community. The commune is characterized by a high proportion of agricultural land, which accounts for 74% of its total area, underscoring its agrarian nature. It comprises numerous village administrative units (sołectwa), such as Białobrzegi, Golanki, and Sterdyń, as well as many smaller settlements. Architecturally, the Sterdyń commune does not feature monumental structures, but its local rural houses and farmsteads reflect the traditional building style of the region. A distinctive feature of the villages is the presence of beautiful, often wooden, architectural elements that highlight the local charm. Culturally, the commune is an example of a place where traditional values remain important to the residents, and local holidays and customs are deeply rooted in folklore.
