wikipedia
Strumień, a town in the Silesian Voivodeship with a history dating back to the 13th century, is located in the picturesque region of Cieszyn Silesia, on the Vistula River at the mouth of the Strumień Canal. Its name comes from a vanished stream, and the first records of the settlement date back to 1293. The town was granted municipal rights in 1482, but its development was repeatedly hindered by natural disasters and wars, including fires and epidemics. In the 18th century, Strumień became part of the Duchy of Cieszyn, which influenced the further development of the settlement. Architecturally, notable landmarks include the Rococo town hall from 1628, Baroque townhouses, the Church of St. Barbara, and a statue of the Virgin Mary. The town is home to the Municipal Cultural Center, which organizes various cultural events and engages the local community. Strumień has a rich choral tradition, and its choirs have won numerous awards both in Poland and abroad. An interesting fact is that Strumień is home to the oldest barbershop in Poland, established in 1901 by Jan Chudy. Despite significant destruction during World War II, the town continues to develop, with its economy based on agriculture and tourism. Its proximity to the Beskid Mountains encourages tourist activities, and Strumień has become one of the centers for carp and trout farming in Poland. Thanks to its historical and cultural heritage, as well as local traditions, Strumień is an interesting place for both residents and tourists.
