Strzelno Commune, located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship within Mogilno County, boasts a rich history that stretches far into the past. Until 1954, there were three administrative units here: the town of Strzelno and the communes of Strzelno-Północ (North) and Strzelno-Południe (South). Between 1975 and 1998, the commune was part of the Bydgoszcz Voivodeship. The seat of the commune is Strzelno, which had a population of 12,298 in 2004. The commune is diverse in terms of area, covering 185.28 km², with agricultural land (66%) and forests (25%) dominating the landscape. Within its borders lies the Ostrowo forest nature reserve, a testament to the richness of the local flora and fauna. Strzelno is also a place of significant architectural and cultural heritage. The commune is home to numerous immovable monuments, including the 17th–18th century Discalced Carmelites monastery complex in Markowice and a wooden post mill from 1803 in Ostrowo.
