wikipedia
Strzyżewice, also known as the Piotrowice Commune, is a rural municipality located in the Lublin Voivodeship, within the Lublin County, forming part of the Lublin agglomeration. Its administrative seat is the village of Strzyżewice, and according to 2011 data, the commune had a population of 7,753. The municipality boasts a rich history dating back to 1867, when it was established in the Kingdom of Poland as part of the Lublin County. After its abolition in 1874, the territories of Strzyżewice and the neighboring Tuszów Commune were merged to form the Piotrowice Commune. The Strzyżewice Commune was reinstated in 1973 within the Bychawa County. It is also worth mentioning the World War I military cemetery located in Piotrowice, which attracts not only local residents but also tourists. The commune's structure includes various village administrations (sołectwa), such as Borkowizna, Bystrzyca Nowa, Dębina, and Pawłów, while the settlement of Pszczela Wola does not have the status of a village administration. The commune covers an area of 108.84 km², predominantly agricultural land (82%) and forests (15%). In 2004, the demographic and age structure of the commune's inhabitants was presented in the form of an age pyramid, providing a better understanding of the region's social structure. Although Strzyżewice is not primarily known for its monuments, there are architecturally significant objects within the commune that are listed in the register of historical landmarks. Its proximity to municipalities such as Bychawa, Głusk, and Jabłonna makes Strzyżewice an interesting place from a cultural and social perspective. It is also fascinating how the commune blends traditional agriculture with modernity, making it an attractive area for both residents and tourists.
