Suchowola is an urban-rural municipality located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, within the Sokółka County, with the town of Suchowola serving as its administrative seat. Between 1975 and 1998, the municipality was part of the Białystok Voivodeship. As of June 30, 2008, the population of the municipality was 7,247. A notable aspect of the municipality is its historical contribution to saving Jews during the Holocaust; in 2021, Adolf and Janina Kiszło and their daughter Marianna were posthumously honored with the title "Righteous Among the Nations" for providing aid to Jews. The municipality covers an area of 255.89 km², of which 76% is agricultural land and 11% is forested. It constitutes 12.46% of the total area of Sokółka County. The municipality comprises numerous villages, including Jatwieź Duża, which gained recognition due to the efforts of the Kiszło family. Suchowola borders the municipalities of Dąbrowa Białostocka, Janów, Jaświły, Korycin, and Sztabin.
