Szamocin is an urban-rural municipality located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, within the Chodzież County, with its administrative seat in the town of Szamocin. Historically, between 1975 and 1998, parts of the municipality belonged to the Piła Voivodeship. The municipality covers an area of 125.46 km², of which 64% is agricultural land and 20% is forested. According to data from June 2004, Szamocin was inhabited by 7,248 people. The municipality includes numerous village administrative units, such as Atanazyn, Laskowo, and Raczyn, as well as smaller settlements like Borówki and Nadolnik. The area is also home to numerous lakes, including Białe Jezioro and Jezioro Borowskie, offering opportunities for recreation and connecting with nature. Neighboring municipalities include Białośliwie, Chodzież, and Margonin. Szamocin also gains significance in an international context through its partnership with the German town of Grasberg.
