Sztabin is a rural municipality located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, within the Augustów County, with its administrative seat in the town of Sztabin. Between 1975 and 1998, the municipality was part of the Suwałki Voivodeship. According to data from the 1921 National Census, the municipality was inhabited by 4,763 people, with the vast majority being Roman Catholic. By 2008, the population had increased to 5,291. The municipality covers an area of 361.8 km², of which 47% is agricultural land and 40% is forested, reflecting its role in the local economy. The municipality includes numerous villages, such as Balinka, Budziski, and Sztabin, as well as non-village settlements. Neighboring municipalities include Augustów, Bargłów Kościelny, Dąbrowa Białostocka, and others, making Sztabin an important point in the regional administrative structure. An interesting aspect is the religious and national diversity of its inhabitants, which may indicate the area's multiculturalism and historical influences.
