Sztum is an urban-rural municipality in Poland, located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, within Sztum County. Its seat is the town of Sztum, which in the Middle Ages functioned as an island domain of Aliem, part of Pomesania. The municipality is situated between Lake Zajezierskie (Sztumskie) and Lake Barlewickie, and also includes lakes such as Dąbrówka and Parleta. The municipality covers an area of 180.84 km², of which 61% is agricultural land and 25% is forested. It comprises 18 village districts, including Barlewice, Biała Góra, and Piekło. Several nature reserves are registered within Sztum, such as Biała Góra, Las Mątawski, and Parów Węgry, highlighting the region's natural richness. The municipality is home to sports clubs, including the Zantyr Sztum Athletics Sports Club, Olimpia Sztum Football Club, and the Victoria Sztum Municipal People's Sports Club, reflecting the area's active sporting life. Sztum borders other municipalities, such as Malbork, Gniew, and Pelplin, as well as three counties, making it a place of strategic regional importance. Between 1975 and 1998, the municipality was part of the Elbląg Voivodeship, and within the Vistula subregion, it plays a significant role in the local administrative structure. The town, as the center of the municipality, has preserved many architectural elements linked to its rich history, making Sztum an attractive destination for tourists and explorers. Interestingly, the municipality hosts numerous cultural events that bring residents together and promote local traditions, contributing to its vibrant community life.
