Tczew

Tczew is a city in northern Poland, located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, known for its rich history dating back to 1252, when the construction of a castle was initiated by Duke Sambor II. It is one of the oldest cities in Pomerania, and its development is linked to its location on the Gdańsk-Toruń trade route. Tczew boasts numerous historical monuments, including the Gothic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross from the 13th century and the Church of St. Stanislaus Kostka from the 14th century, which showcase the beauty of sacral architecture. Tczew is also proud of its impressive bridges: the first road bridge over the Vistula River, built between 1851 and 1857, which was one of the longest in the world at the time, and a railway bridge from the late 19th century, recognized as an international monument of engineering. In terms of culture, the city has a strong tradition, and after World War II, many of its historical buildings were rebuilt, while educational activities were resumed, including the establishment of Poland's first State Maritime School. Tczew is also an important sports center with the football club Gryf 2009, and since 2023, the city has offered free public transportation. An interesting fact is that in 1258, the first City Council in Polish lands was established in Tczew, making the city one of the pioneers of local governance in the region. Additionally, Tczew is a key transportation hub, connecting various road and railway routes, which contributes to its economic development. The city is also home to the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone, attracting investments and businesses.
