Tenczyn is a village located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in the Myślenice County, known for its rich history and unique geographical conditions. Its origins date back to the 15th century when the settlement, originally called Toporów, was founded by the Tęczyński family. Over the centuries, its name evolved, eventually becoming Tenczyn. In 1581, the village began to play a significant role in the region as part of the Kraków Castellany. In the 18th century, it came under the rule of various aristocratic families, and after World War II, it was acquired by the Lubomirski family. The culture of Tenczyn is enriched by local legends, including tales of kings and heroic deeds. In 1989, the Parish of Our Lady Queen of Poland was established, and in 1995, the Capuchin Brothers' Retreat House was built. Geographically, the village lies in the Tenczynka River basin, with a rich network of streams. The Tenczynka River features a typical mountainous profile and was regulated in 2005. The region experiences a moderate climate with cool summers and diverse weather phenomena. The soils are of low fertility, making agriculture challenging in the area. Tenczyn is surrounded by the picturesque peaks of the Beskid Wyspowy Mountains, making it an attractive destination for tourists. The village is also known for historical figures such as Fr. Stanisław Główka, who was active during World War II, and Fr. Michał Rapacz, who was murdered by a communist militia. Tenczyn is a place with a rich history and beautiful landscapes, attracting tourists and nature enthusiasts alike.
