Pinokio Theatre in Łódź is an artistic institution that began its activity in 1945 as the Puppet Theatre (Teatr Kukiełek), and since 1950 it has operated as the State Puppet Theatre "Pinokio". The theatre’s headquarters were originally located in a post-war building, initially used by the Chief Directorate of Entertainment Events. However, in 2023, the theatre moved to a revitalized venue in the former "Wigencja" factory at Sienkiewicza Street. The theatre has two stages – a large one with 155 seats and a small one with approximately 50 seats. Its repertoire includes performances for audiences of all ages, highlighting its versatility and commitment to theatre education.
The history of "Pinokio" is rich with premieres, festivals, and numerous national and international awards, including performances in countries such as England, Austria, and Germany. Over 65 years of activity, the ensemble has staged 216 premieres and attracted over 8 million spectators. Another interesting fact is that in 1949, after the premiere of the play "Pinocchio," the theatre gained popularity, which contributed to its current name. The directors of the theatre, including Marta Janic, Jerzy Michalak, and currently Gabriel Gietzky, have had a significant impact on its development and artistic program, introducing a number of innovative productions and theatrical experiments. The theatre is also involved in educational activities, organizing workshops and performances for children and youth.
