wikipedia
The Church of God's Providence in Koło is a historic Evangelical-Augsburg temple, built between 1882 and 1883 on the initiative of Reverend Ludwik Teichmann. Designed in the Neo-Gothic style by Bronisław Schuppe, it is a single-nave structure with a small chancel and sacristy, made of red brick and covered with a gable tile roof. The tower, adorned with pilasters, reaches a height of 12.5 meters and is crowned with a sheet metal roof. The church is 31 meters long and 12.5 meters wide, and its interior features a U-shaped choir and a freestanding pulpit. Its distinctive architectural elements and the use of local building materials reflect the regional style and construction techniques of the time. From a historical perspective, the church mirrors the rise and fall of Protestantism in the region, which emerged in the 16th century, faced decline during the Counter-Reformation, and later flourished thanks to Dutch settlement. Until 1840, Evangelicals from Koło attended services far from their place of residence. After World War II, the church experienced numerous upheavals, including destruction and looting, before religious activities resumed. In 2001, the church was reconsecrated. Culturally, the church serves as the home for the local Evangelical community and plays a vital role in the spiritual life of the area. Today, it is a branch of the Evangelical-Augsburg parish in Konin, with Pastor Waldemar Wunsz serving as its minister. An interesting fact is that during World War II, the church was destroyed and looted, with many of its furnishings taken by soldiers and looters, significantly impacting its subsequent history and restoration. Despite adversity, the Church of God's Providence remains an important symbol of Evangelical history and culture in the region.
