wikipedia
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Niemodlin is a Roman Catholic parish church, located at 29 Rynek Street. It belongs to the Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Niemodlin deanery of the Opole diocese and was entered into the register of historical monuments on February 20, 1958. The history of the church dates back to 1228, when it was mentioned in the context of the patronage of Duke Casimir I of Opole. After Niemodlin was granted town rights in 1290, the temple became a parish church, and from 1389, a collegiate church. The current structure, built at the end of the 13th century, underwent numerous reconstructions, especially after a fire in 1640. The 18th century brought further changes, such as Baroque transformations of the interior and the construction of chapels. The church, built of brick and stone, features Gothic elements, such as buttresses and a presbytery with decorative stuccos, as well as Baroque details, including altars. Inside, there are valuable elements such as Gothic sedilia, a Baroque pulpit, and the main altar with a painting of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A notable feature are the polychromes from the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries, considered some of the oldest in Poland, discovered during conservation work in recent years. The church, which has undergone numerous renovations, including between 2019 and 2021, was restored as part of a project for the protection and conservation of historical monuments. Today, it is open to visitors, offering a rich history and unique architectural value, making it an important point on the cultural map of the region.
