The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kłodzko, known as the collegiate church, is a magnificent religious monument with a rich history dating back to 1194. The original structure was mentioned in historical documents, and the current church, built in the Gothic style, began construction in the 14th century under the initiative of Archbishop Arnoszta of Pardubice. Its construction was slowed by the Hussite Wars and only resumed in 1458. The church features a three-aisled basilica layout without a transept, with galleries and richly decorated windows, as well as a late Gothic portal. The interior is predominantly Baroque in style, adorned with numerous works of art, including the main altar by Jesuit Christopher Tausch and Baroque cornices and pilasters. In the chancel, visitors can admire the 15th-century statue of the "Madonna of Kłodzko." An interesting feature is the existence of crypts for deceased princes of Ziębice and a late Gothic baptismal font from 1517. In 2003, the church was considered as a potential cathedral for the new Sudeten diocese, and in 2016, it was elevated to the rank of a collegiate church, reinstating the Kłodzko chapter after centuries. The church is located in the center of Kłodzko, and its main axis is rotated by 41° from the traditional orientation, reflecting the geographical conditions of the terrain. The total length of the church is 61.65 meters, and its width is 44.50 meters, making it one of the largest religious buildings in the region.
