The Moravian Gate Arboretum, located in the eastern part of Racibórz on the Oder River, is a unique botanical complex covering an area of 164 hectares, featuring rich floral diversity and tourist and recreational infrastructure. The arboretum includes not only a botanical section but also a mini-zoo with approximately 100 animals and an early medieval cremation burial site with barrows. The arboretum grounds offer walking paths and educational trails, including dendrological and ecological ones, which provide opportunities to learn about local flora and fauna. In winter, visitors can enjoy a sledding track and a ski jump. The area also features a campsite and a restaurant. The history of the arboretum dates back to the times of the Piasts and Cistercians, who were the first owners of the land, and in 2000, the area was transformed into a botanical garden. The arboretum is home to valuable plant species, including protected ones such as green hellebore and the military orchid, and boasts ancient trees, including oaks and pines with impressive circumferences. Among the highlights are two ponds rich in aquatic vegetation, which support the life of many plant species. The arboretum is involved in educational and scientific activities, organizing various events, symposia, and conferences, and also operates the Upper Silesia Biodiversity Preservation Laboratory, equipped with modern microscopes.
