The Museum of Metallurgy in Chorzów

The Museum of Metallurgy in Chorzów, opened on November 26, 2021, is a unique institution in Poland dedicated to the heritage of the iron and steel industry associated with the Silesian region. It is housed in the historic power plant hall of the Kościuszko Steelworks, purchased by the city in 2010, which highlights the architectural significance of the site, blending modern museum design with industrial heritage. The museum's exhibitions showcase the economic, civilizational, and cultural transformations of the region against the backdrop of Europe as a whole. It houses extensive collections, including machinery and artifacts related to the Kościuszko and Batory Steelworks, such as steam hammers and eccentric presses, which testify to the advancement of metallurgical technology. As part of its activities, the museum has initiated the "Call Me Steelworks" project, aimed at documenting the memories of former steelworks employees through interviews. The museum's statute includes educational activities, exhibition organization, and the promotion of culture related to the metallurgical industry. It collaborates with various institutions, both local and international, underscoring its role as a cultural and scientific hub in the region. Since 2023, it has been part of the Silesian Voivodeship's Trail of Technical Monuments.
