The palace complex in Sarny

The palace complex in Sarny, nestled in the picturesque landscape of Lower Silesia, boasts a rich history dating back to the 15th century, when it was originally built as a modest defensive manor. In 1590, Fabian von Reichenbach transformed it into a three-story Renaissance palace, which gained splendor thanks to the Götzen family, responsible for further expansions. In the 18th century, Count Franciszek Antoni Götzen initiated the construction of the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk, adorned with illusionistic frescoes that have survived to this day. The architecture of the palace complex, including a granary from the second half of the 17th century and a summer palace from 1730, reflects diverse styles and the transformations of different eras. After World War II, the complex suffered significant degradation, but since 2014, its reconstruction has been underway with the support of public funds and the work of a foundation. Following renovations, the gatehouse and two farm buildings have been opened to the public and now serve tourist functions. The palace also hosts cultural events, such as the Festival Góry Literatury (Mountains of Literature Festival) and the International Summer School of Early Music, attracting artists and scholars. The complex is open to visitors, and its history and unique architecture, including preserved polychromes, make it an attraction for culture and history enthusiasts.
