The Łódź Walk of Fame is a unique project initiated in 1996 by Jan Machulski, inspired by the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Located in Łódź on Piotrkowska Street, between 6 Sierpnia and General Romuald Traugutt Streets, the avenue was created as a way to honor outstanding figures associated with cinematography. The first star, commemorating actor Andrzej Seweryn, was embedded on May 28, 1998, and was designed by Andrzej Pągowski. The avenue is divided into two sections: on the eastern side, there are stars dedicated to directors and cinematographers, while on the western side, actors are honored. Decisions regarding new stars are made by a chapter composed of Łódź artists and representatives of cultural circles. Since June 4, 2018, the operator of the Walk of Fame has been the National Film Culture Center, which aligns the project with UNESCO's framework as Łódź City of Film. Among the honored figures are both individuals and groups, such as the Warner Brothers, the Polish Filmmakers Association, the Łódź Film School, the creators of the film "Ida," and the Educational Film Studio. The Walk of Fame not only celebrates the achievements of Polish cinema but also promotes Łódź as an important film hub, connecting the city's history with its cultural heritage.
