wikipedia
The Three Emperors' Corner, also known as the Three Emperors' Triangle, is a historical site where, between 1846 and 1915, the borders of three European empires converged: the Kingdom of Prussia, the Austrian Empire, and the Russian Empire. The name "Triangle" is a mistranslation of the German term "Dreikaisereck," which originally referred to the "Corner of the Three Emperors." Geographically, the site marks the point where the White Przemsza River meets the Black Przemsza River, forming the boundary between the three powers and witnessing political and territorial upheavals. Initially, until 1871, the area was known as "Drei Länder Ecke," meaning the Corner of Three Countries. The architecture associated with this location is noteworthy, including the Bismarck Tower in Mysłowice-Słupecka Górka, which was built in 1907 and demolished in 1937. Later, in 2017, new tourist infrastructure was introduced, including bicycle paths and gazebos. Before World War I, the Three Emperors' Corner attracted thousands of tourists from Europe, offering them the opportunity to enjoy scenic views and local attractions such as excursion steamboats. After World War II, the site lost its significance, but numerous initiatives were undertaken to revitalize it, including the construction of a viewing platform and a historical center. The area is also symbolic for the modern identity of cities such as Sosnowiec and Mysłowice, where it appears on the flag and coat of arms of Sosnowiec. Interestingly, on the day of Poland's accession to the European Union in 2004, an event was organized at the Corner to mark this milestone, featuring a controversial inscription about the borders of the three partitions. Thus, the history of this site is closely tied to the shifting borders and politics of the three powers, and contemporary efforts aim to highlight its historical and touristic significance in the region.
