wikipedia
Grom, formerly known as Grammen, is a village in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in Szczytno County, situated between Szczytno and Pasym. The settlement was founded under Chełmno law in 1381 by the village leader (sołtys) Henrich Goldenhorn. Over the centuries, Grom experienced numerous wars and upheavals, including invasions by the Teutonic Order and the Swedish wars, which significantly impacted the village's demography and economy. In the 19th century, the village was repopulated, and its economy began to develop, with new structures such as an inn being established. The architecture of Grom is predominantly brick-built, with the only wooden cottage deemed unused in 2009. The village also features a former church, a late 19th-century school, and remnants of an old brickyard. During the latter half of the 20th century, Grom underwent significant development linked to railway connections and modern farming methods. The settlement history of Grom also includes the presence of Jews, such as Abraham Kaczynski, who settled here before World War II. Wartime conflicts, including World War II, depopulated the village, but after the war, Grom became a new home for Poles from devastated regions. Today, the village has 546 inhabitants and retains many elements of its rich history, including traditions and legends related to its name, which may derive from the stormy oaks that once grew in the surrounding forests.
