wikipedia
Tomaszów Lubelski is a town located in the Lublin Voivodeship, in the Middle Roztocze region, on the Sołokija River. It was founded at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries by Jan Zamoyski and received its town rights in 1621. The town has a rich history, significantly shaped by wars, demographic shifts, and the influence of diverse cultures. During the partitions of Poland, it fell under Austrian and later Russian jurisdiction. In the 19th century, Tomaszów gained importance as a seat of local authorities, but its development was interrupted by World War I and World War II, which brought significant population losses, including German occupation and the Holocaust, during which nearly half of its inhabitants were murdered. After the war, the town was rebuilt, and in the 1970s, it was honored with the Order of the Grunwald Cross for its resistance against the Nazis. Architecturally, Tomaszów Lubelski stands out with its urban layout and numerous historical monuments, including the wooden Parish Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas, and numerous villas and buildings from various eras. The town is also rich in cultural traditions, hosting the annual Kreskon fantasy convention and historical reenactments. Tomaszów is home to the Regional Museum and the Memorial Chamber of Communist Terror, reflecting the community's commitment to preserving local history. Tomaszów Lubelski also serves as a regional trade center, with developed transport infrastructure, including a planned bypass as part of the S17 expressway. The town is surrounded by areas of high natural value, including nature reserves, making it an attractive place both to live and to visit.
