Turawa is a rural commune in Opole Voivodeship, within Opole County, with its administrative seat located in the village of Turawa. In 2008, German was introduced here as an auxiliary language, reflecting the multicultural character of the region. The commune covers an area of 171.46 km², of which 30% is agricultural land and 52% is forested. Turawa is situated northeast of Opole, in the central part of the voivodeship, and is surrounded by forest complexes and lakes, including the Turawskie Lakes. The commune is known for its picturesque landscapes and limited industrialization, with a primary focus on tourism and leisure. There are only a few industrial plants here, such as the Metal Products Factory in Osowiec. Demographically, the commune had a population of 10,018 in 2019. It comprises numerous villages, including Bierdzany, Kadłub Turawski, Kotórz Mały and Wielki, Ligota Turawska, Osowiec, Rzędów, Turawa, and the settlement of Zawada. Neighboring communes include Chrząstowice, Ozimek, and Opole. The commune offers a rich tourist experience, encouraging active recreation amidst forests and lakes, which is an important aspect of its cultural heritage.
