The Valley of Three Ponds, located in Katowice, is a recreational and sports complex consisting of 11 artificial water reservoirs created as a result of mining activities in the 19th century. The name of the valley refers to the number of ponds that were initially built to supply water to the "Ferdinand" mine. The area gained recreational value at the beginning of the 20th century, and since the 1960s, it has been part of the Katowice Forest Park. Thanks to historical authorities, the Valley has become an important site for both water sports, such as kayaking, and cultural activities, hosting music festivals and running events. Geographically, the valley lies in the mesoregion of the Katowice Upland, which contributes to its diverse flora, where trees such as birches, pines, and oaks mix with synanthropic vegetation. The Valley also features various sports facilities, including a water sports harbor, soccer and beach volleyball courts, and a water playground, making it suitable for recreation for both children and adults. The nearby Camping 215, along with numerous tourist trails, attracts tourists and residents alike, offering plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. In recent years, the Valley of Three Ponds has become a space for regeneration, where its natural character has been preserved despite intensive urbanization in the vicinity. In October 2023, Katowice introduced an innovation by testing an autonomous minibus in the valley, which may indicate its dynamic development and adaptation to modern transportation trends. Architectural aspects of the valley, such as food pavilions and sports facilities, complement its recreational and social functions, making it one of the most important landmarks in Katowice in terms of both history and contemporary residents' needs.
