wikipedia
Wąsosz, located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship on the Barycz River, boasts a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. The first records of the settlement come from 1300, and the town received its municipal rights in 1290. In the past, Wąsosz was part of Greater Poland and later came under the rule of Silesian dukes. Its architectural layout from the 13th to the 19th centuries, including the market square buildings and various temples, testifies to the historical significance of the town. Among the monuments are a neo-Gothic parish church from the late 19th century and a Gothic auxiliary church from the 13th century. Wąsosz was also the seat of a manorial court, operating from 1312 to 1749. The town suffered numerous disasters, including fires and epidemics, which slowed its development, as well as the effects of two world wars. After World War II, the town was destroyed, and its German inhabitants were displaced. In connection with Polish administration, Wąsosz only regained its town rights in 1984. Culturally, the town functions as a small service center, with local industry and sports activities, such as football, represented by the MKS Orla Wąsosz club. In summer, residents and tourists can enjoy kayaking on the Barycz River. An interesting fact is the variety of names for Wąsosz, including the German Herrnstadt and the Latin Chrysopolis, which reflect historical administrative changes. Currently, the population is about 2,574, and the town has schools and a kindergarten, indicating local educational facilities. The archaeological history of Wąsosz dates back to the Mesolithic era, and excavations have revealed traces of settlements from various periods, showing centuries of continuous life in the region. Wąsosz is also well-connected, with national road 36 and a disused railway line. The town maintains a partnership with the Spanish municipality of Santa Susanna, fostering cultural exchange.
