Warsaw Chopin Airport, also known as Okęcie, is the largest airport in Poland, with its opening dating back to 1934. It is located in the Włochy district, approximately 8 km southwest of the city center. Today, the airport serves as a key hub for LOT Polish Airlines and Wizz Air. Architecturally, Chopin Airport has undergone a series of modernizations, including a terminal renovation in 2015, where modern features such as a rooftop solar power plant align with green trends. The terminal complex consists of Terminal A, divided into older and newer sections, which handle significant numbers of passengers annually. From a cultural perspective, in 2001, it was named after Frédéric Chopin, highlighting Poland's musical and cultural heritage. The airport's history is rich and turbulent; it was destroyed during World War II, with civilian operations resuming in 1945. It also has an interesting post-war context, when plans to build new airports were altered in favor of expanding Okęcie. Interestingly, the airport can handle up to 42 flight operations per hour and boasts relatively high flight punctuality. Additionally, the airport faces issues with dishonest taxi drivers, prompting authorities to take measures to curb these practices.
