wikipedia
The Warsaw Tollgate in Radom is a historic building located at the intersection of Malczewski and Kelles-Krauz Streets, with a rich history dating back to the 19th century. The first tollgates in Radom were established near the gates of the Kazimierzowski Town, and their locations changed as the city expanded. In 1824, tollgates were introduced at five entry points to Radom, and by 1919, there were six. The Warsaw Tollgate, along with the Lublin Tollgate, is one of the two that have survived to this day. Originally built as a wooden structure in 1820, it was replaced in 1834 by a brick building in the classicist style, designed by S. Baliński. Over the years, the building lost its original function and served various purposes, including as a morgue for a nearby hospital. After a thorough renovation between 1971 and 1972, the tollgate became a Tourist Information Point, and since 1991, it has housed the Rogatka Gallery of the Faculty of Art at UTH. Architecturally, the Warsaw Tollgate is a square, single-story building with a distinctive façade featuring blind arcades and a colonnade, which adds to its unique charm. The building combines a rich history, architectural value, and cultural significance, making it an important part of Radom's identity.
