Warsaw West

Warsaw West Station is one of the key railway stations in Warsaw, located on the cross-city line and classified by Polish State Railways (PKP) as a Premium category station. It is situated near the Roundabout of Siberian Exiles, and the complex also includes a bus terminal and an office building housing the headquarters of PKP, PKP Intercity, and PKP Informatyka. The station was built between 1919 and 1933 during the reconstruction of the cross-city line, and its original name was Warszawa Czyste. In 1944, the Home Army carried out the "Panienka" operation here, and during the Warsaw Uprising, the station was used to transport residents to camps. After the war, the station remained undeveloped for many years, with modernizations and renovations taking place in the 1970s and 1980s, when the platforms were connected by a tunnel and the station was integrated with the bus terminal. In 2011, a new investment began, which included the construction of a new station building and the West Station office complex. In 2017, the station served around 60,000 passengers daily, making it the busiest station in Poland. Currently, the station has 9 platforms, serving both regional and long-distance trains. It also features historic structures, such as a locomotive shed and a signal box from the 1960s. The entire complex is characterized by modern architecture, and future plans include the construction of a tram tunnel and a new bus terminal. Interestingly, between 2012 and 2016, several structures in the station area were added to the municipal register of historical monuments. Warsaw West Station is not only a crucial transport hub but also a place with a rich history and fascinating architectural features.
