Wartkowice is a rural commune located in the Łódź Voivodeship, in the Poddębice County, with its seat in Wartkowice and administrative offices in Stary Gostków. In the past, the commune was known as Gmina Gostków until 1954, and between 1975 and 1998 it was part of the Sieradz Voivodeship. The commune covers an area of 141.8 km², of which 81% is agricultural land and 10% is forested, making it an important agricultural region in the county, accounting for 16.1% of its total area. According to data from June 30, 2004, the commune had 6,435 inhabitants. Like many localities in Poland, Wartkowice has rich historical roots, reflected in its architectural structures, such as traditional rural houses and religious buildings. The local culture is showcased through community events that bring residents together. The commune consists of numerous village administrations (sołectwa), such as Biała Góra, Bronów, Chodów, and Stary Gostków, as well as smaller settlements like Brudnówek and Lewiny. Neighboring communes, such as Dalików, Łęczyca, and Uniejów, create an environment conducive to cooperation and joint initiatives.
