wikipedia
The White Head Tower, dating back to the first half of the 15th century, is an important monument of Stargard, located in the oldest part of the Old Town, near the Wałowa Gate and on a bend of the Ina River. In 2010, along with St. Mary's Collegiate Church and the remaining defensive walls, it was designated as a historical monument. Architecturally, the tower stands out with its hexagonal white conical spire, and its structure is based on a square foundation that transitions into a cylindrical form up to a height of about 30 meters. Inside, there are six levels, including a dungeon, which adds to its aura of mystery. The White Head Tower is part of the European Route of Brick Gothic, highlighting its significance within the broader heritage of Gothic architecture. Among local traditions, there is a legend of brave women who defended the city from invaders while most of the men were away at war. After the successful defense, the ruler ordered the top of the tower to be painted white and named it the "White Head Tower," referencing the white caps worn by women at the time. This not only testifies to their courage but also emphasizes the importance of women's roles in the city's history. Thus, the tower is not only an architectural treasure but also a symbol of the strength and determination of the Stargard community.
