wikipedia
Lgota Wielka is a rural commune in the Łódź Voivodeship, located in the Radomsko County. It boasts a rich history dating back to the 12th century, when the area was forested and settlers established villages in exchange for rent exemptions. The first mention of the village comes from 1386. In Lgota Wielka, there is a wooden church dedicated to St. Clement, built in 1767, which is an example of local religious architecture. The church is uniform in style, with a narrower presbytery, and its interior is adorned with 19th-century altars and valuable liturgical objects. Historical records show that the parish once included neighboring localities, and local parish priests over the centuries have worked on repairs and maintenance of the temple, a tradition that continues to this day. Lgota Wielka is also an important center of cultural life; it has a kindergarten, a primary school, a Communal Public Library, and a Senior Club. The inhabitants are mainly engaged in agriculture, but many emigrate to nearby cities such as Radomsko and Bełchatów in search of work. Several sports clubs operate in the region, and the nearby ski resort on Kamieńsk Mountain attracts tourists. It is known for its active bus communication and the Łódź Bicycle Route. An interesting feature is the parish cemetery, which testifies to a long tradition of burials, with a crypt under the church where the remains of the deceased can be found. Archaeological discoveries during construction work reinforce the local history, including the finding of remains during the laying of cobblestones in 2007. Lgota Wielka, with its traditions, monuments, and tranquil rural life, is a fascinating element of the Polish landscape.
