Wilkowice is a village located in the Silesian Voivodeship, in the valley of the Biała River, serving as the seat of the Wilkowice municipality. It covers an area of 1,750 hectares and has a population of approximately 6,650 people. Nestled at the foothills of the Beskid Mały range, Wilkowice is a well-known tourist destination with numerous hiking and cycling trails. The highest point in the village is Magurka (909 meters above sea level), while the lowest is near Graniczna Street (380 meters above sea level). The village has a rich history dating back to the 14th century, when it was mentioned as Abbatisvilla, associated with the Cistercians from Rudy. Over the centuries, Wilkowice changed hands among various noble families and suffered during the Swedish Deluge. After the partitions of Poland, it became part of Austria, and in the 20th century, it was reintegrated into Poland. Interestingly, for a long time, the inhabitants of Wilkowice did not use the Polish language. The municipality is home to numerous historical landmarks, including the train station, cemeteries, the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, and the PTTK mountain shelter on Magurka. Wilkowice is also known for its sports activities; the local football club GLKS Wilkowice is active here, and MTB and skiing competitions are regularly organized. The village offers various educational facilities, including kindergartens and primary schools. Many tourist attractions, such as the Wietrzna Dziura Cave and natural trails, draw visitors to the area. Wilkowice also hosts various cultural events, including church fairs. Thanks to its strategic location, the village is becoming part of the Bielsko agglomeration, and with a developing industrial zone, it offers opportunities for economic growth. Residents have access to emergency and healthcare services, ensuring their safety. Wilkowice is a place with a rich history and culture, successfully blending tradition with modernity.
