Kubuś (samochód pancerny)

W skrócie

wikipedia
"Kubuś" was a Polish armored car created during the Warsaw Uprising, with its construction beginning on August 8, 1944, in the workshop of Stanisław Kwiatkowski. The vehicle, which was essentially an armored personnel carrier, was designed under the direction of Józef Fernik, codenamed "Globus," and its brown-gray camouflage pattern was painted by Stanisław Kopf, codenamed "Malarz." "Kubuś" took part in the attack on the University of Warsaw, and its development under wartime conditions reflects the determination and creativity of the Poles in the face of danger. After combat action and a rapidly changing course of events, the vehicle was immobilized on September 6, 1944, after running out of ammunition. Although its machine gun was successfully removed, it could not be extracted from Powiśle due to barricades. After the war, its hull was transferred to the Polish Army Museum, where it was renovated in 1967 and mounted on the chassis of a Soviet truck. In the 1990s, "Kubuś" was repainted in a non-original manner, sparking controversy among historians and enthusiasts. In 2004, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the uprising, a replica of the vehicle was built, which is now housed in the Warsaw Uprising Museum. "Kubuś" was based on the chassis of a Chevrolet Model 157 with a 3-ton payload, and its crew consisted of 12 people, including commander Tadeusz Zieliński and writer Krzysztof Boruń. The vehicle was armed with a 7.62 mm DP light machine gun, a flamethrower, and grenades, making it versatile in difficult urban combat conditions. The history of "Kubuś" is an important part of Poland's cultural and historical heritage, showcasing the resistance of Warsaw's society and their ingenuity in the face of armed conflict.
