The Horror Museum, opened in September 2012, offered a variety of themed rooms, ranging from realistic gore scenes to fairy-tale settings, as well as a cinema room featuring clips from classic horror films. However, the museum ceased operations in July 2018. Around the same time, the Museum of the Old Village, which had opened on August 9, 2008, in the Wojnowice Palace, also closed down. The museum collected folk artifacts, including a 200-year-old pea press and other everyday objects, thanks to donations from local residents. The Wojnowice Palace, built in the 1830s and renovated in the late 19th century in a neobaroque-classicist style, is surrounded by a 4.5-hectare park featuring numerous rare tree species. The park also includes an animal farm and is home to rich wildlife, including many species of birds and other wild animals. The history of the palace dates back to 1828, when it was purchased by physician Carl Johann Christian Kuh. Not only was he a doctor, but also a mine owner, making him an influential coal producer in the region. After his death, the estate passed into the hands of the von Banck family, who expanded the palace, giving it its present form. After the war, the palace served various functions, including as a hospital, until it became state property in 2000. Since 2003, it has been privately owned, and after over 15 years as a reception center, it has returned to its role as the owner’s residence. The palace and its surroundings attract interest not only for their architecture but also for the historical and cultural richness of the region.
