wikipedia
Wołomin, a city in the Masovian Voivodeship, is the seat of Wołomin County and the municipal commune. Located 20 km from Warsaw on the Wołomin Plain, it plays an important role in the Warsaw agglomeration. The central point of the city is 3 Maja Square. Its history dates back to the 15th century, with the first mentions of the locality appearing in documents from 1478. Initially, the settlement was a small noble village, gradually developing with the expansion of the railway, whose arrival in 1862 contributed to urbanization. In the 19th century, Wołomin changed hands among various owners, and the Meyer family, who purchased properties in 1794, played a key role in its history by engaging in the development of the settlement and its infrastructure. After regaining independence in 1919, Wołomin obtained city rights, which led to intensive construction and industrial growth. Architectural treasures of the city include the Church of Our Lady of Częstochowa and the Nałkowscy House, home to the Zofia and Wacław Nałkowski Museum. Wołomin also has rich cultural traditions, reflected in the Municipal Cultural Center, various social organizations, and educational institutions such as primary schools and higher education facilities. The city was also a place of Jewish activity, leaving a mark on its history and architecture, with the Jewish cemetery being one of its important sites. During World War II, Wołomin experienced great tragedies, including the deportation of Jews to extermination camps and German occupation, which significantly impacted its population and infrastructure. Modern Wołomin is a dynamically developing city with modern public transportation, including railway and bus stations, and infrastructure that benefits its residents. An interesting fact is that the first hypermarket in the region was established in Wołomin. Once an agricultural settlement, the city has transformed into an important industrial and cultural center, blending a rich historical heritage with a modern lifestyle.
