Świecie is an urban-rural municipality in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, located in Świecie County, with its administrative seat in the town of Świecie. The municipality covers an area of 174.81 km², of which 60% is agricultural land and 23% is forested. In 2006, it was inhabited by 33,269 people. The area of the municipality includes the Vistula Landscape Park and four nature reserves, including the Grabowiec Reserve and the planned Czarcie Góry Reserve. The municipality boasts a rich structure of nature conservation, which also includes Natura 2000 areas and 39 natural monuments. In the very center of Świecie, there are numerous historical landmarks, such as a wooden house from 1770 in Chrystkowo, a half-timbered water mill from 1888 in Gruczno, and a manor complex in Polski Konopat. An important architectural site is the Church of St. Stanislaus from the 15th–17th centuries and the Bernardine monastery complex. The town can also pride itself on well-preserved town walls from 1375–1392 and the ruins of a Teutonic castle. Świecie is rich in local and cultural traditions, making it an interesting destination for tourists. The municipality consists of a number of villages, including Chrystkowo, Gruczno, and Sartowice, as well as many smaller settlements. It is worth noting the urban and rural aspects of the municipality, which coexist harmoniously, creating a diverse cultural landscape. Surrounded by nature, the municipality attracts outdoor enthusiasts, offering numerous hiking and cycling trails. An interesting fact is the presence of three Natura 2000 areas and the rich fauna and flora of the region, which attracts biologists and nature enthusiasts. The Świecie municipality also serves as an important center for nearby municipalities, such as Bukowiec and Chełmno, underscoring its strategic importance in the region.
