wikipedia
Złatna is a picturesque village in Poland, located in the Silesian Voivodeship, within the municipality of Ujsoły. It lies in the valley of the Bystra stream at an altitude of approximately 750 meters above sea level. The settlement, previously known as Sołki, was first mentioned in 1690. Its current name is derived from the Bystra stream, which was formerly called Złotna—a name linked to legendary traces of alluvial gold. Złatna lies within the boundaries of the Żywiec Landscape Park, which helps preserve the region’s natural beauty and unique microclimate. The village includes hamlets such as Herdula, Jakubków, and Lora, as well as numerous smaller parts like Głębokie and Skalanka. It boasts several tourist attractions, including a 19th-century forester’s lodge, remnants of an early 19th-century glassworks, and sulfur springs in the valley of the "Śmierdzący Potok" (Stinky Stream), known for their healing properties. The glassworks, situated along the Bystra stream, was founded by Andrzej Wielopolsky and operated until the 1870s. Its history is still visible in the preserved fragments of furnace structures and other relics. Złatna is also home to a group of over 200-year-old linden trees, recognized as a natural monument, as well as numerous 19th-century crosses and chapels that reflect local culture and religiosity. The region is rich in fauna, including rare animal species, and features vegetation typical of the Western Carpathians. Numerous hiking trails lead to destinations such as Hala Lipowska, Krawców Wierch, and Hala Rysianka, attracting both tourists and nature enthusiasts. An interesting landmark is the monument dedicated to Lieutenant Stanisław Kopik, located near the hamlet of Zapolanka and unveiled in 2020. With its rich history, natural attractions, and unique location, Złatna is an excellent destination for both tourists and lovers of regional culture.
