wikipedia
Zabrzeg, a village in the Silesian Voivodeship, is part of the municipality of Czechowice-Dziedzice and covers an area of 1400 hectares, inhabited by 3107 residents. The village is situated in the Upper Vistula Valley region, bordering forests and the Vistula and Iłownica rivers. Zabrzeg is a locality with a rich history, first mentioned in 1517 as Zabrzech. In the 18th century, the village became part of the Duchy of Bielsko, and in 1782, a Baroque-Classicist church dedicated to St. Joseph was built here. In the 19th century, infrastructure developed, including the construction of the Northern Railway, which contributed to population growth. Zabrzeg has left its mark on history both politically, with the dominance of the Union of Silesian Catholics, and through tragic events during World War II, when the Nazis murdered five Polish civilians. The village is known for its sports traditions, including the football club "Sokół" Zabrzeg and the athletics club LUKS Zabrzeg. Every year, the International Polish Tarok Championships are held here, attracting players from various countries. The village has also witnessed numerous administrative changes, and the post-World War II period saw it partially flooded due to the construction of the Goczałkowice Reservoir. Zabrzeg is also home to notable figures, such as Józef Londzin, a social and political activist. An interesting aspect is the topographic origin of the village's name, which is linked to its location on the banks of the Vistula River.
