The municipality of Zalesie, located in the Lublin Voivodeship, in the Biała Podlaska County, was known as the municipality of Dobryń until 1954. The municipal seat is in the town of Zalesie. Between 1975 and 1998, the municipality was part of the Biała Podlaska Voivodeship. In 2004, the municipality was inhabited by 4,559 people. Its area is 147.16 km², of which 61% is agricultural land and 34% is forested. Zalesie constitutes 5.34% of the area of Biała Podlaska County. Within the municipality, there are two nature reserves: Czapli Stóg, which protects the nesting sites of grey herons, and Dobryń, which preserves natural ecosystems, including a old-growth forest with monumental trees, alder carrs, and ash-alder riparian forests. The municipality comprises several village administrations (sołectwa), including Berezówka, Dereczanka, and Kijowiec. It borders Biała Podlaska, Piszczac, Rokitno, and Terespol, which fosters cultural and social interactions with neighboring localities. Zalesie, with its green areas and rich fauna, is also an attractive destination for nature enthusiasts. The natural monuments found within its territory are also of interest, enriching the history and architecture of the region. Thanks to its unique natural complexes and local traditions, the municipality is an important element of the cultural and ecological landscape of the Lublin region.
