Zarzecze is a village located in the Silesian Voivodeship, within Żywiec County, with a history dating back to the 15th century. The earliest mention of the settlement comes from 1450 and refers to the sale of the village. Historically, Zarzecze was part of the Duchy of Oświęcim and was tied to Poland until the First Partition in 1772, after which it fell under Austrian rule. The village boasts a rich history, including the existence of fish ponds on its outskirts since the 16th century, which were drained in 1923. Zarzecze is also known for its historic architecture, such as the All Saints Parish Church, built in the early 1960s while preserving regional traditions. The first school in the village opened in 1906, and between 1911 and 1966, several other educational facilities were constructed. Zarzecze is a tourist destination, offering beautiful landscapes and opportunities for active recreation along the Żylica River, which flows into Lake Żywiec. The village is home to a Volunteer Fire Department (OSP) and the "Jezioro Żywieckie" People's Sports Club, fostering an active community life. In 2014, the Zarzecze Brewery was established, diversifying the local offerings. In June 2022, commemorative plaques were unveiled, showcasing the village's history before the creation of Lake Żywiec, adding a cultural and social dimension. With a population of 1,380, Zarzecze is gaining popularity among tourists, providing accommodations and other attractions. Its location in the Żywiec Basin allows visitors to explore the region's rich culture and traditions.
