Zebrzydowice

Zebrzydowice is a village located in the Silesian Voivodeship, in Cieszyn County, on the Piotrówka River, near the border with the Czech Republic. It is known for its rich history, dating back to the 14th century, when the village was mentioned in a Latin document related to the Bishopric of Wrocław. Initially, the settlement was a knightly estate that changed hands multiple times, and from the 17th century, it was divided into Upper and Lower Zebrzydowice. The village features historic landmarks, such as the Parish Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a neoclassical palace, which was remodeled in the 18th century into a Baroque residence surrounded by a park. The history of Zebrzydowice is closely tied to social and economic transformations. In the 19th century, the village gained significant importance due to the development of rail transport. The railway was introduced in 1855, contributing to the intensive growth of the area. After World War I, Zebrzydowice became a disputed territory between Poland and Czechoslovakia, and in 1920, it was assigned to Poland, which influenced its further development. During the interwar period, a Border Guard outpost was established here. World War II brought tragic events to the village, including its connection to the Auschwitz concentration camp. After the war, Zebrzydowice underwent reconstruction, with new public facilities such as a community center and a health clinic being built. The village is also known for its cultural activities, including the presence of the Roman Catholic Church and the Pentecostal Church. Today, Zebrzydowice boasts developed infrastructure and a rich tourist offer, thanks to its cycling and hiking trails, as well as picturesque historical sites. Local attractions, such as the Młyńszczok Pond, draw both residents and visitors alike.
